'वक्रेश्वर की भैरवी' जिन योग-तन्त्र-परक कथाओं का संग्रह है, वे नि:सन्देह आपको अविश्वसनीय और असम्भव-सी लगेंगी, स्वाभाविक भी है। आज के वैज्ञानिक युग में भला कौन विश्वास करेगा, इन्द्रियों की सीमा से परे घटित घटनाओं पर, लेकिन यह तो स्वीकार करना ही पड़ेगा कि इस भौतिक जगत में दो सत्ताएँ हैं आत्मपरक सत्ता और वस्तुपरक सत्ता । वस्तुपरक सत्ता के अन्तर्गत आने वाली वस्तुओं को तो प्रमाणित किया जा सकता है, लेकिन आत्मपरक सत्ता का नहीं। इसलिए कि आत्मपरक सत्ता की सीमा के अन्तर्गत जो कुछ भी है, उनका अनुभव किया जा सकता है, और उनकी अनुभूति की जा सकती है। अनुभव मन का विषय है और अनुभूति है आत्मा का विषय। दोनों में यही अन्तर है। मन का विषय होने के कारण किसी न किसी प्रकार एक सीमा तक अनुभवों को तो व्यक्त किया जा सकता है लेकिन अनुभूति को व्यक्त करने के लिए कोई साधन नहीं है क्योंकि वह है आत्मा का विषय। मन को एकाग्र कर आत्मलीन होने पर इन्द्रियातीत विषयों की अनुभूति होती है।
