Short Description Of The Book:
The first edition of the innovative history of Sanskrit literature has been finished soon, it is a matter of joy for me. In order to make this book more useful for students and curious readers of literature, some innovative material has been added in the second edition. In the preface to the first edition of this book, while presenting the foundation of Sanskrit literature, certain foundations for its overall understanding were discussed. In the second edition, in this introduction, some factual material has been added on the dialogue of Sanskrit literature with literature written in other languages, along with this, three new topics have also been briefly combined - the concept of history in Sanskrit literature, Sanskrit and Current world and Sanskrit literature: State dependency and non-statehood. Although these three subjects can be properly discussed only in huge research books, the indications given on them in the form of sutras will provide the students with the basis for further study. In the entire book, amendments have been made here and there for the sake of clarity of the topic. Information on some little-known but important works was missing in the first edition, they have been added in this edition. Notable among these are Ratnakar's Vakroktipajchasika, Peacock and Arrow Stotras, Mananka Kavi's Vrindavankavya, Chandragomin's Lokananda Drama, Travikramam Patnatya, Kaumudimahotsava Drama and Rajashekhar's Harvilas epic. In the first chapter, the required information has been given on the views of Tilak etc. regarding the period of creation of Vedas. संस्कृत साहित्य के अभिनव इतिहास का प्रथम संस्करण शीघ्र ही समाप्त हो गया, यह मेरे लिये हर्ष का विषय है। छात्रों और साहित्य के जिज्ञासु पाठकों के लिये यह पुस्तक और भी उपादेय हो सके इस दृष्टि से प्रस्तुत द्वितीय संस्करण में कुछ अभिनव सामग्री जोड़ी गई है। इस पुस्तक की प्रथम संस्करण की भूमिका में संस्कृत साहित्य की पीठिका प्रस्तुत करते हुए उसके समग्र अवबोध के लिये कतिपय मूलाधारों पर चर्चा की गई थी। द्वितीय संस्करण में इस भूमिका में संस्कृत साहित्य के अन्य भाषाओं में रचे गये साहित्य से संवाद पर कुछ तथ्यात्मक सामग्री जोड़ी गई है, इसके साथ ही तीन नवीन प्रकरण भी संक्षेप में संयोजित कर दिये गये हैं--संस्कृत साहित्य में इतिहास की अवधारणा, संस्कृत और वर्तमान विश्व तथा संस्कृत साहित्य : राज्याश्रय और राज्यनिरपेक्षता। यद्यपि इन तीनों विषयों का सम्यक् विवेचन विशाल शोधशग्रन्थों में ही हो सकता है, पर सूत्ररूप में इन पर जो संकेत किया गया है, उससे छात्रों को आगे के अध्ययन के लिये आधार प्राप्त होगा। पूरी पुस्तक में यत्र तत्र विषय की स्पष्टता की दृष्टि से परिवर्धन किया गया है। पहले संस्करण में कतिपय अल्पज्ञात किन्तु महत्त्वपूर्ण कृतियों पर जानकारी छूट गई थी, उन्हें इस संस्करण में जोड़ा गया है। इनमें उल्लेख्य हैं--रत्नाकर की वक्रोक्तिपज्चाशिका, मयूर तथा बाण के स्तोत्र, मानांक कवि का वृन्दावनकाव्य, चन्द्रगोमिन् का लोकानन्द नाटक, त्रैविक्रमम् पटनाट्य, कौमुदीमहोत्सव नाटक तथा राजशेखर का हरविलास महाकाव्य। प्रथम अध्याय में बेद के रचनाकाल के विषय में तिलक आदि के मतों पर अपेक्षित जानकारी बढ़ाई गई है। इसी अध्याय में उपनिषद् दर्शन और ग्रीक दर्शन, वेदों में कला विषयक चिन्तन, वेदों में विज्ञान-ये तीन नवीन प्रकरण जोड़े गये हैं। द्वितीय अध्याय में भी महाभारत--भारतीय
